COEP Technological University in Pune, established in 1854, is the third oldest engineering institute in India.
On August 5, 1865, Sir Bartle Frere, the Governor, ceremoniously laid the foundation stone for the new college.
By 1866, the institution secured affiliation with the University of Bombay, and in 1868.
It started as Poona Civil Engineering College and later became the College of Engineering, Poona, in 1911.

Established in 1899, the hostel has a rich history dating back to the inception of the College in 1854.
The hostel was renamed in 1911 as the College of Engineering Poona Hostel, commonly known as the COEP Hostel, it stands in close proximity to the institute campus, with convenient access to the bus and Shivajinagar railway station just a 5-minute walk away.
There are ten buildings in the hostel campus.
In these, 8 for boys and 2 for girls.
Out of these, 2 buildings are two-storied, 2 buildings are four-storied, and the remaining buildings are three storied.
The hostel campus has the capacity of about 1064 boys and 422 girl students.
